If you’re wondering what explains some of the Trump phenomenon, look no further than the hypocrisy of our elites.

Middle America rightly sees the hypocrisy of being chastised by entertainers, politicians, media elite, ivory tower educators, and others who say one thing and do another, who go on about greed but live the gilded life. Middle Americans feel their opportunities for the good life are diminishing and that the elite actually don’t even like them even though they (the elite) depend on Middle America for viewers, votes, taxes, and more. Time will tell if Middle America will rightly direct its righteous indignation.

Joining the fray now is Tina Fey who pointed out the hypocrisy on display at the Oscars to Howard Stern on his XM Radio show. Of course, she’s not without her own hypocrisy, but at least she’s saying something. From Entertainment Weekly:

“‘I will say, being at the Oscars […] halfway through, I was like, “This is some real Hollywood bullsh–,”‘ Fey told Howard Stern on his SiriusXM radio show on Tuesday. ‘Everyone is telling me what to do. People yelling at me about rape and corporate greed, but really it’s climate change. I was like, “Guys, pick a lane.” “We’re going to fix everything tonight.” Also, you’re all rich. Why are you all yelling at me about corporate greed? You’re all so rich.’”

That’s just the tip of the iceberg. For Middle America, it goes much, much deeper. They’ve watched for decades and played along, all the while the resentment grew.

For better or worse, Trump has tapped that resentment. Our elite have sown the wind and may reap the whirlwind.
