Sharia Law: Accepted in America?
This week, Pew Research Center released a report with a number of interesting facts on the Muslim religion. According to the report, the Muslim population is projected to overtake the Christian population by the year 2100. Such an occurrence would make Islam the largest religion in the world.
If Islam does become the largest religion in the world, would Sharia, the Islamic legal code, become the law of the land? Pew’s polling suggests that there’s a strong chance it would:
What might Sharia law look like? The Koran, from which Sharia is derived, gives a few hints below:
[4.34] “Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great.”
[9.29] “Fight those who do not believe in Allah, nor in the latter day, nor do they prohibit what Allah and His Apostle have prohibited, nor follow the religion of truth, out of those who have been given the Book, until they pay the tax in acknowledgment of superiority and they are in a state of subjection.”
[24.2] “(As for) the fornicatress and the fornicator, flog each of them, (giving) a hundred stripes, and let not pity for them detain you in the matter of obedience to Allah, if you believe in Allah and the last day, and let a party of believers witness their chastisement.”
[47.4] “So when you meet in battle those who disbelieve, then smite the necks until when you have overcome them, then make (them) prisoners, and afterwards either set them free as a favor or let them ransom (themselves) until the war terminates.”
What do you think? Will Sharia law eventually become the accepted and plausible legal system in America?
