It’s a strange characteristic of modern societies that the more sexual freedom people have, the less babies they seem to be able to produce. According to new data out from the Centers for Disease Control, U. S. fertility is at an all-time low. Births fell one percent in 2016 from the previous year, resulting in a general fertility rate of 62 births per 1,000 women. Women in their 30s and 40s are actually having more babies, but the drop in fertility, said officials, is being driven by teens and twenty-somethings.

As the Washington Post frets:

“The number [of a country’s birthrate] needs to be within a certain range, called the ‘replacement level,’ to keep a population stable so that it neither grows nor shrinks. If too low, there’s a danger that we wouldn’t be able to replace the aging workforce and have enough tax revenue to keep the economy stable.”

And, like everything else, we get to blame it on Millennials, who are apparently delaying having children until they grow up—and this turns out to be a long process. This is the generation whose men are living in parents’ basements, playing video games, and who, if they are gainfully employed at all, are working at Starbucks. In fact, if you can believe the commercials, men in general are a pretty sorry lot when it comes to facility with things reproductive. After all, the whole point of the sexual revolution was that men were going to be able to have as much sex as they wanted any time they wanted it—if they could convince women that this was a good thing. But now that women have mostly bought in, all the men have ED and can’t do anything about it anyway.

Remember when the problem was overpopulation? The globe was going to be overrun by seething masses that would eventually have to be thinned like a herd of elk. So they invented the pill and solved the problem…

And created an entirely new one.

But the thing about population control is this: It only controls the population that is concerned about population control. And who is it who is (still) concerned with population control?

Answer: Liberals.

Take this little self-test: First, think of all your liberal friends. Second, think of all your conservative friends. Then ask yourself this question: which are having more children?

What you will undoubtedly find is this: The only population liberals are controlling is their own. Liberals aren’t having many kids; conservatives are. Back in 2006, ABC News reported that conservatives are having 41% more children than liberals!

When liberals think of children they think of the legislation they should pass that they think will help them. When conservatives think of children, they think of actually having them.

Think about secular liberal professor friends. How many of them have more than two children? Then think about your homeschool friends. How many of them have fewer than two?

Somebody is going to inherit the earth, and it isn’t the people who think that fewer people should.
