The Daily Mail reports that the Cologne attack, in which 1,000 men who were likely Muslim given their ethnicity attacked women on New Year’s Eve, may actually be called “Taharrush Gamea”. Here’s how they describe it:

“Police fear a gang-rape phenomenon known as ‘taharrush gamea’ in the Arab world and seen in attacks on women across German cities at the New Year has now spread to Europe.

The name of the practice translates to ‘collective harassment’ and is carried out by large groups of men who sexually assault lone women, either by groping, or in some instances, raping them.

The men first surround their victim in circles. Some then sexually assault her, while others not directly involved watch or divert outsiders’ attention to what is occurring.”

According to the BBC, the term and description are being reported as such by North Rhine-Westphalia state’s interior minister Ralf Jaeger. Here’s what the BBC had to say:

“Monday’s report into the attacks in Cologne says that the combination of group sexual violence with robbery had not previously been seen in Germany.

It notes that similar crimes took place in other parts of Germany on 31 December, including in Hamburg.

The report describes a modus operandi known as ‘taharrush gamea’ in Arabic, meaning group sexual harassment in crowds, and compares it to incidents reported in Cairo’s Tahrir Square at the time of the Egyptian revolution.”

If you have the stomach for it, below is a brutal, real video of it taking place in “the Arab world” according to Speisa. Again, this content is very strong and disturbing.

As the Daily Mail stated:

“The practice is only carried out in public and almost always at demonstrations or large public gatherings where the attackers find safety in numbers and disorder.”

Some have pointed out that this reminds them quite a bit of what happened to CBS reporter Lara Logan in Tahrir Square in Cairo in 2011. In an awful twist of events, she ended up being sexual assaulted by a group of men. Only later did she learn that her bodyguard was trying to get her out of the situation because the men started to say “take her pants off”. Here is her account:

If it is true, that “Taharrush Gamea” is a culturally accepted practice in some Islamic areas of the world, it is another blow to the twin ideas of multiculturalism and moral relativism. What is right for some men is clearly not right for the women who were assaulted. Those men have the will to power to act on their beliefs, whether in Cairo or Cologne. The men in Cologne clearly do not care about the existing laws or cultural traditions of the West; they hold fast to their own.

How then shall these two cultural views coexist?
