Studying religion examines mankind's various ideas about and methods of interaction with God or a higher power.
There are essentially three groups within the study of religion: monotheists, polytheists, and pantheists. Monotheism holds that there is one God, and that he is a discreet
being. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are all examples of monotheistic
religions. Polytheism holds that there are multiple gods, and each is a
discreet being. Examples of polytheism are primarily found in older
cultures, such as ancient Greece, ancient Egypt, and the Nordic
countries. Pantheism, or paganism, holds that god is found in all things, and all
things are part of god. The New-Age movement is a modern version of
pantheism.
